Hi to All Listers
I must apologise. In my great excitement and enthusiasm I replied direct to
Sandy Bailey re. her ancestor George Howe.
One of my interests, William Mc Garvie, co founder of the Sydney Herald, was
employed in 1828 by Robert Howe, son of George.
Robert owned the Sydney Gazette and the Australian Stationery Warehouse.
William managed the Warehouse in Lower George Street Sydney.
There is a great deal of information in the Australian Dictionary of
Biography, regarding George Howe, his son Robert and another son George
Terry.
The Rev John McGarvie, brother to William, was the first Presbyterian
minister, enlisted by Doctor Lang, to come to Australia. William's widow
Isabella was grandmother to Dorothea Mackellar.
